|Address||Quarry House, 2 Donegore Hill, Antrim|
|Price||Price from £375,000|
A fine country house on a 1.5 acre site, the original part dating back to the eighteenth century, nestled on the hillside just below picturesque Donegore Parish Church with panoramic views spanning across South and East Antrim countryside, combining older features of the original house with a more contemporary extension.
Quarry House was extended and renovated around 12 years ago and the result is a fabulous family home full of warmth, character and masses of natural light. No expense was spared in creating this wonderful home with a combination of quality reclaimed materials along with more contemporary features. The hall is particularly impressive with its slab paved floor and double height windows with gallery landing above. The living room and dining room are in the original part of the house and retain the cottagey feel with clay tiled floor and windows with deep reveals overlooking the County Antrim countryside. These rooms are divided by a more contemporary double frontage glass fronted fire. The sun room leads from the living room to the office which has been converted from a natural stone outhouse. This would be a perfect room to work from home but it would also make a fine playroom. There is also a separate sitting room, downstairs w.c. and utility/boiler room.
The kitchen offers all you would expect from a country home of this type. A Redfyre cast iron range cooker, loads of modern built in cream units by ‘Mobalpa’ with walk-in larder, space for a large kitchen table and sofas and chairs.
Upstairs there are four double bedrooms, the master bedroom divided from its en-suite with a three quarter wall. This feature works really well and needs to be viewed to appreciate. Three of the bedrooms have en-suites and there is a fantastic family bathroom complete with water jet shower.
An electric powered wooden entrance gate opens to reveal a pink gravel courtyard with fruit trees growing against the wall and space for a number of vehicles. The gardens surround the house with lawn on one side with sitting out area to the rear and steps up to veg garden on the other side with paddock beyond. The total area of the site is around two acres
Heating and electricity
Of particular note is the heating system which is run by a Okofen Bio Mass wood pellet boiler with a three ton, vacuum fill hopper. There are also 7.5 kW of photovoltaic panels on the roof which contribute to the electricity supply to the house. There is a grant which we understand stays with the house totaling £888 for the year 2016-2017 under the Government Feed-In Tariff Scheme.
Quarry House is nestled in the hillside just below the picturesque St John's Donegore Church and is the sole property on the lower section of Donegore Hill which runs down to the footbridge over the M2. Antrim is around ten minutes away by car while Templepatrick is even closer and Belfast Centre is around 25 minutes, making it an easy commute for work or Belfast schools. There are popular local primary and secondary schools in Antrim, Parkgate, Ballyclare and Templepatrick. Belfast International airport is just a fifteen minute drive. The M2 junction at Antrim can be reached in around five minutes.
